The 2013 elk hunting season is underway and I just returned from a month of scouting and guiding elk hunters in California and Nevada.
This year we had 7 Roosevelt elk hunters in California and one early Rocky Mountain elk hunt in Nevada. We were not 100% success this year like we normally are with 6 out of our 8 hunters taking bulls this year. The two unsuccessful hunters both passed up 6 point bulls on their hunts so we were 100% opportunity. The rut was late this year and the first couple hunts were not as good as normal. We did take 3 Roosevelt elk that will easily qualify for the Boone and Crockett record book minimum of 290 inches. We have now had 22 hunters take bulls in California that will qualify for Boone and Crockett since 1999.
Len Guldman took this 7x8 Roosevelt elk in California that gross scored 344 7/8. Len was guided by Aaron Griffith, Mark Duarte, and myself. Congratulations Len on a great bull.
Mike Burdt took this 6x6 Roosevelt elk in California that was missing a 3rd point and will still make Boone and Crockett while hunting with guide Aaron Griffith. The bull gross scored 322. Congratulations Mike.
